This district was also the place where, in 1783, was arranged a park called “Princely Garden” – later “Szczytnicki Park” – one of the first parks in English style in the European also in Szczytniki district, in 1872, has begun the documented history of the building at 6 Bartla Street- initially a small neoclassical villa, owned by a merchant Johannes Promnitz – situated among trees and surrounded by a beautiful garden. The villa, designed as a single-storey building and definitely smaller one than nowadays, upon successive ownership changes, has undergone many reconstructions, both minor and more serious.
At the beginning of the XXth century, the villa was a house of Adolf Strumpel – an outstanding neurologist, and little later, in the twenties of the XXth century, a guest house run in the villa. In order to adapt the villa for needs of the subsequent owner: the School of Civil Anti-aircraft Defense, led by the Reichsluftschutzbund, in 1937 the building undergone the next reconstruction. This school was located in the building at 6 Bartla Street till 1944. After the war, the villa was dedicated to the scientific and academic purposes – the building housed the Department of Foreign Languages of the Agricultural University.
